Mother-daughter winemakers Kate and Penelope Radburnd walking through the vineyard at their Hawke's Bay winery

Wine without
compromise.

HAWKE'S BAY, NEW ZEALAND  |  ULTRA-PREMIUM WINERY

Radburnd Cellars was established with a singular intent: to create ultra-premium New Zealand wine, unconstrained by commercial pressures.

Scale has never been an aspiration here. What drives every decision, from vineyard selection to final blending, is the pursuit of the purest, most elegant expression Hawke's Bay can offer.

Handmade Hawke's Bay wine, second to none.

The winemakers

Radburnd Cellars is led by Kate Radburnd, a generational talent and one of New Zealand's most decorated winemakers, whose passion for Hawke's Bay's cool-climate viticulture is the founding force of this estate.

Kate works in close collaboration with her daughter Penelope Radburnd, who bridges winemaking and commercial strategy, and Sara Macdonald, an accomplished winemaker with a particular devotion to Chardonnay.

Together, they carefully oversee every stage of the process as a single, purposeful team.

Philosophy

Kate and her team work with carefully selected parcels from across Hawke's Bay, chosen for their capacity to express purity, structure, balance, and a sense of place. Each parcel is handled individually, fermented separately, and considered in detail.

“These are small-parcel Hawke's Bay wines defined not by volume, but by intent. Representing the best, not the most.”

Approach

The finest fruit. The right sites in Hawke's Bay. Thoughtful winemaking that allows each element to sit in natural balance.

Their Hawke's Bay Chardonnay, Syrah, and Merlot Cabernet are shaped as much by what is left out as what is included. These are wines built with structure and designed to evolve with time.

Recognition, while never the objective, has followed.

Radburnd wines have been reviewed by some of the industry’s most respected critics, including Bob Campbell MW, Cam Douglas MW, Sam Kim (Wine Orbit), Huon Hooke (The Real Review), and Michael Cooper, author of Michael Cooper’s Buyer’s Guide to New Zealand Wines.

What has become most meaningful is the consistency of that recognition. Across every vintage since 2018, our Chardonnay, Syrah, Merlot, and Cabernet wines have consistently received 95–99-point reviews and five-star ratings.

While scores have never been the goal, this level of sustained recognition remains a reassuring reflection that our pursuit of quality is being recognised in the glass.

Full reviews can be found on each wine page throughout our shop. The excerpts below are taken from reviews by Sam Kim of Wine Orbit.
